Course Description

This course combines communicative activities with skill-building exercises in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar to boost students' academic success.  The primary goal of the course is to teach communicative competence, that is, the ability to communicate in English.  Students will have opportunities to develop listening skills and build fluency in reading and writing.  Students will also be given the opportunity to express their opinions and ideas.

Goals and Objectives
This course is designed to:

1.  Help learners become more confident,
    independent and active in speaking English.

2.  Increase learners' reading fluency.

3.  Build upon a framework of concepts that helps
    students become proficient in English and
    prepared for future academic and social
    challenges. 

4.  Empower students to be responsible for their
    learning.

Methodology
A communicative approach: giving feedback, pair-work, role-play, group-work and class activities. 

Pair Practice:  Students will work in groups to complete the exercises in class. 

Class Presentations: The content of the course includes interesting and innovative topics that encourage students to express their feelings, ideas, and opinions.

Group Activities: Group activities is designed to develop students oral communication skills.

Course Requirements
1.  Students are required to actively participate in class discussion and attend all class sessions.  Attendance will be recorded regularly.  Final grades may be lowered if three (3) or more class is missed.

2.  All cell phones
must be turned off during class.

3.  All reading and listening assignments must be done prior to class.  There will be pop quizzes on reading and listening assignments.
