COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to increased students' ability to use American English with confidence in everyday situations.  Students take responsibility for increasing their own vocabulary, improving pronunciation and enunciation, and developing communications skills.  This is a fast-paced class of, by, adn for the students, assisted by the teacher.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1.  Attendance: Regular attendance is expected.  Your final grade will be lowered by 1% for each unexused absence.

2. 
Class Participation:  Students are required to actively participate in class discussions.

3. 
Assignments: Homework is to be completed before the beginning of the class for which it was assigned.  Late homework will not be accepted.  Any assignments not completed when due will receive a grade of 0%.

4. 
Discussion: Students should be prepared to comment on their
classmates' presentations.

5. 
Common Courtesy:  Students will have the courtesy to listen attentively when their classmates are giving their presentations.  You will refrain from talking to your neighbor or asking questions until after the talk or presentation is completed.

6. 
Cell Phones:  All cell phones will be turned off duringclass.

Award Categories for Play Contests
Language & Pronunciation:  how idiomatically correct and true to your personas do you sound?  The words must come out as recognizable English.

Acting Skills:  Portray a convincing character.

Playwriting:  story must be interesting and the plot well made.  Play must develop smoothly from scene to scene.  Play must be clear throughout.

Song and Dance:  the singing and dancing on stage must be well done.

Costumes, Props, Sets and Special Effects:  should be inventive, beautiful.

Synergy, Group Cohesion, Team Work:  acting troupe should show a sense of togetherness, cooperation and fun.

RULES FOR THE PLAY
1.  Each member of the group should be on stage, in a speaking role.
2.  Keep plays to a lenght of no more than
20 minutes.
3.  Plays should be student-written or student-adapted. This also applies to props.
