Introduction In this page, I will give you basic information on what Flying Star is about but I won't be able to teach you everything I know about it because it will take more than a page and more than one sitting!  I have been studying this aspect of Feng Shui for more than a year now and I still get confused on when to fly "yin" and when to fly "yang" and often have to refer to my reference notes.  To begin, we must know what Flying Stars is and what school it belongs to.  The Flying Star school belong to the Xuan Kong system.  Both Xuan Kong and Ba Zhai are authentic  systems of Feng Shui.  Having the knowledge of Xuan Kong Feng Shui techniques, you will be able to assess the qualities of Qi affecting a property in different periods of time.  In other words, your property may have brought you luck the last twenty (20) years, but bring you bad luck for the next twenty.

To better understand this whole system of Feng Shui, you must have a basic knowledge of the Bagua its formation and directional order, and the 24 Mountains and the Yin and Yang of the 24 Mountains.  It is also very important to know about the Five Elements. To plot the Flying Star chart, it is also very important that you understand the Luo Shu trail, how to establish the Period or age of the building or property, as well as mapping the chart.

Plotting the Flying Star Chart Now that you have a basic knowledge on the Lo Shu Trail, you might want to try plotting the star chart. Before you can do that, you must first learn how to determine what the facing and the sitting direction of the property or your house.  Another important thing you need to do is to establish the period of the house or building. Facing and Sitting Direction To take an accurate direction of your property, you must use a tool that will provide you with an accurate direction.  Although, I own a Luo Pan, I use a simple compass similar to the one you see on the left.  Now, to determine the facing of the house or building, you need to first look for the busiest and brightest part of the house or the most "YANG" part of the property.  The main door is not always the facing of the property unless it's facing a busy street  Remember, facing is considered YANG while the sitting is considered YIN. Determining the House Period While most Feng Shui practitioner determine the house/property period by looking at the San Yuan chart using the date the house was built, new knowledge argues that using the "move-in" date may be more accurate.  So if you moved in to a new house this year, the house period should be "8".
