| San-Yuan School Founded by Yan Yun-sun in the T'ang dynasty (618-906 CE) this school focused on Landform Classification, in particular the feng-shui of burial grounds, relying heavily on the geomantic compass to align the burial site with special features in the land. Later, San-yuan began applying landform analysis principles to buildings and other man-made structures using the Flying Stars System. Today, San-yuan uses both landform and building characteristics; however, it emphasizes on Landform Classification. |

| Pa-chai School Pa-chai or Eight Mansions School is the newest school of traditional Chinese Feng Shui (about 300 years old) designed exclusively for use with buildings maching the residents' guardian star based on his/her year of birth. The Eight Mansions Schools uses the persons Kua (Gua) number to derive the four auspicious and inauspicious location and direction of a person and the house. This school's theory is that there are two kinds of people: East and West. A person can find a lucky house by matching his guardian star with the facing of his/her house. For instance, a West person will have better luck if he/she lived in a house that faces West. The table below provides information on auspicious and inauspicious locations based on their Gua numb |
