| The Republic of the Philippines is one of the most spectacular places to visit! An archipelago with 7,107 islands, the Philippines offer a variety of places to visit with boundless treasures and unforgettable experiences. Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao make up the three main island groups in the Philippines. Luzon Luzon is the largest island in the Philippines spanning over 100,000 square km. It is home to about half of the country's population and dominates the country's cultural and economic affairs. The two most popular places to visit in Luzon area are Manila and Subic Bay. If you like to shop, Manila is the best place to visit with its gigantic malls and beautiful hotels, I think you will have the time of your life. If you get tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, you can rent a car with a driver and head towards Subic Bay about 1-1/2 hour away and enjoy the beautiful beaches during the day and try your luck at the casinos after dark. If, however, things got too hot, you can head up north to Baguio City where the weather is cool and enjoy the beautiful mountains, and learn a little about the Ifugao culture. Luzon area is usually where I stay when I visit the Philippines because I can have the city, the mountains and the beaches! Visayas The Visayan island is very popular for travelers who are looking for beautiful beaches, snorkeling, hiking, etc. The Visayan island is made up of seven (7) major islands: Negros, Panay, Cebu, Bohol, Samar, and Masbate. The most popular among the seven islands are Cebu (known for its beach resorts) and Panay (popular for its white Sandy beaches in Boracay). Mindanao Mindanao is the second largest island in the Philippines, located in the southernmost part of the country. The island's landscape is mountainous running from north to south. The two most popular places to visit in Mindanao are Davao (named one of the "25 best destinations" by the Philippine Tourism Board) and Cagayan De Oro. Although, I heard a lot of wonderful things about Mindanao, I tend not to go in this direction due to the ongoing terrorist watch in the area. |
